Do you remember we had a post about IITian’s forming a party in India. Wondering what happened to them. Much to the surprise of parties, the fledgling “Lok Paritran”, a party floated by former IIT-ians, has managed to make inroads into the vote bank of other party candidates like Arcot Veerasamy (DMK) and S Ve Shekar (AIADMK). Between them, the seven Paritran candidates, who contested five constituencies in the city, one in Tiruvallur and another in Ramanathapuram district, cumulatively polled more than 34,000 votes, with their main man Santhanagopal Vasudev, who was pitted against political heavy weights like Shekar and Napolean (DMK) in Mylapore in the city, mustering 10,000 votes. The Paritran, contesting for the first time, was formed only two months ago. When established parties competed with each other on promising freebies to woo voters and capture power, the Paritran stood out, not believing in enticing voters on such accounts.”Short term promises are a strict no no” was their refrain. The Paritran was clear in its promise for good governance, transparency, accessibility, freedom from corruption and proper implementation.

i couldnt see any IITians in their profiles. wish to see one
Though, I felt a little sad as I was hoping at least one of them would make it, I would still consider it to be a good start. I hope the candidates don’t get disheartened and not comptete next time. If this first step provides an inspiration to other well educated and nobel minded individuals who believe they can contribute and bring a change to the country, I would be delighted.
One thing I learnt from my observation on politics, it is not enough if the person has good intentions and/or great ideas. He/she should inspire people around him/her and also capable of winning support from other politicians and importantly common man. He/she should also know how to play the game of politics. Do you think Ab Lincon or L. Jhonson were able to bring changes and free slaves easily with out any struggle. They had to call on every senator and congressman to convince and seek support from them by wooving and promissing something or other to most of them (not sure how many of the promises are kept). Sometimes even great leaders have to play dirty (I would call tricky) politics to achieve good things. Don’t mis-understand, I do not mean cheating or commiting crimes - just mean that he/should always find a way around it rather than going straight and being honest. If the intentions are good, how you do it may some times become irrevalant.
I belive, this is the step in the right direction and I am greatly impressed.

I WISH ALL THE UPCOMING IITIANS ALL THE BEST.
they have long way to go
i think they made a good start. It is very early to make any further comments about them. By the way who doesn’t want to see india as a devoloped nation. Problem with voters in india is that they dont look into the future face of india. Change is must. i have donated $100 to the party. I urge all NRIs to donate this party. details r in thier web. Thanks
