“After asking tennis pinup Sania Mirza to get rid of her signature T-shirts and short skirts, Muslim clerics in Hyderabad have turned their attention to the National Song Vande Mataram. They have issued a fatwa (religious edict) against the Song, and have asked Muslim parents in the city not to send their children to schools where they are required to recite the Bankim Chandra Chatterjee composition. The clerics are of the view that the Song goes against the teachings of Islam.”
CNN-IBN asks this question:
Will religious politics be allowed to play with the future of the next generation?
We think that these clerics or religious leaders are taking advantage of the fact that people still take religion into highest account. If something the clerics have to say, they link to religion and no one questions it. Take terrorism as an example which uses extreme interpretation of religion to recruite and carry attacks.
What do you guys have to say? Please stay on topic and comment your opinion.

If any one has problem singing Vande Mataram then they have no right of staying in our country. Such people should be kicked out of the country.

And this is from my city which I lived for 25 years with many muslim friends. I least expected this from this heaven. I should tell you that these people who first said those words are traitors and should be immediately hanged, no need to get them out of the country.
How the hell on earth does islam prohibits love for motherland. Do muslims all over the world face identity crisis.
Sri's World | Jun 11, 2006 | Reply
These clerics are struggling for their identity. Since they couldn’t grow in a good way, using religion to get focussed in the news. Like how our leaders use caste card to get into power.

First of all understand that this religious leaders are there in all religions…..
There are many bad things propanganda in every religion…. God sake those Bible, Kuran, All hindu religious books are written hundreds if else thousands of years ago… Those are not fully applicable to this times…
Remember, church used to hang persons if they called earth was round and sun was center…. same case with Islam here. Clerics are simply using people to sell their propaganda.
Enforcing strict rules of Kuran or Bible or Gita is rediculous…
I say these religions has to adapt to modern world. See Indian government banned caste’s.. now its their but still going down.. in a 50 or more years casts will go down.
And clerics (all religions) please dont make it another Afghanistan.. where children can’t play or listen to music or women can’t study…
So I say that people please wake up and dont give a shit about these religious leaders.

its ridiculous that even in 21st century we have to face such inexplicable insanity in our country….such clerics deserve the immediate capital punishment..!

I think some hundred years back this poem was written. Vande Mataram was the national cry for freedom from British oppression during the freedom movement..and also some hundred years back muslims are here… and no changes in lyrics now…..
So just one thing…in this 100 years history no one issued a fatwa …. so y suddenly they issued a fatwa against the vandemataram song…
are they sleeping from 100 years…?
in 1982 Britishers banned now even our indians(truely they are not indians) they dont need…this..wah..
politics….politics…politics…
DONT PLAY WITH ANY RELIGIONS. ITS HARMFUL TO EARTH.

problem comes when people blindly follow the religion.. the sooner our gereration identifies the threat we going to forsee the better we can prepare ourself now.. But there will come a day where india becomes afganisthan if not raised our people above these bullshit believes..
No religion is good if it don’t respect other relegion..
without using the word islam we should find a solution that atleast keeps good islamists away from these clerics fatwas…

These people disturb the national integrity and should be considered terrorists. They should be tried in the highest court and given very serious punishment. This way the others in the country would know what would happen if they try to propogate anti-indian beliefs or rituals.

i always wondered why muslims can opt for hindi as first language, special english and 2nd, and english as 3rd in state syllabus. Hardly you will see muslims going for telugu as 2nd language.
Why did the govermnent introduce two english subjects???? This is particularly important… because i have seen muslims who speak telugu very well are much friendly and feel one with the telugu state.
Though I am not exactly responding to the topic in question….. my discussion is very much related.

These are the people who dont have anything to do and trying to do harm to the nation!! If I were prime minister I would have killed all of them by hanging publicly !! they are like f****s of their !!!

The person who has given a new meaning to Vande Mataram is A.R Rahman, a Muslim. Its baseless to react to such comments. We have seen similar comments from Bajrangdal and Shivsena. One of the many important things the Islam teaches is the love of Mother Land. One of the resonsibilities of a true muslim is also to express the Love of the Motherland. Instead of debating over the religion and caste politics we should be discussing the progress of our country.

Let us stop singing Vandemathram and stop going shcools and places where it is cumpolsory.
What next?
Stop learning any language other than Urdu.
Stop communicating with world outside Islam.
Talk in Urdu eat Halal go to bed and the next morning we request for a separate muslim country ???
Come on we dont need a new country let us just pack our bags and go to Pakisthan/Iraq/Afghanisthan.
Lets live happily ever after.
No need to sing vande matharam, janagana mana.

People who dont want to sing vandemataram can just F*** out of our country and go to any other f***ing country where they can just keep on issuing senseless, stupid, idiotic F***ing fatwas all the time. And our secular country does not need mad people like them any more except those politicians, who need them to create issues.

please dont corrupt the minds of these young pupils for heavens sake. i am a muslim and am proud to sing vande mataram like any other indian. these so called religious leaders are here only to play their politics, a common muslim has nothing to do with them. I hav a humble request to my fellow country men: Please dont let hatered creep into ur minds for muslims coz of these idiotic fatwas issues by these fanatics(who themselves hav betrayed ISLAM), otherwise these people will succeed in their mission of creating enimity amongst us.

Rabindranath Tagore, The writer of our current National Anthem has rejected the Vande Mataram Song as our national song. In his letter to Subhas Chandra Bose (1937) Rabindranath wrote, “The core of ‘Vande Mataram’ is a hymn to goddess Durga: this is so plain that there can be no debate about it. Of course Bankim does show Durga to be inseparably united with Bengal in the end, but no Mussulman [Muslim] can be expected patriotically to worship the ten-handed deity as ‘Swadesh’ [the nation]. This year many of the special [Durga] Puja numbers of our magazines have quoted verses from ‘Vanda Mataram’ – proof that the editors take the song to be a hymn to Durga. The novel Anandamath is a work of literature, and so the song is appropriate in it. But Parliament is a place of union for all religious groups, and there the song can not be appropriate. When Bengali Mussulmans show signs of stubborn fanaticism, we regard these as intolerable. When we too copy them and make unreasonable demands, it will be self-defeating.” In a postscript to this same letter Rabindranath says: “Bengali Hindus have become agitated over this matter, but it does not concern only Hindus. Since there are strong feelings on both sides, a balanced judgement is essential. In pursuit of our political aims we want peace, unity and good will – we do not want the endless tug of war that comes from supporting the demands of one faction over the other.” (Letter #314, Selected Letters of Rabindranath Tagore, edited by K. Datta and A. Robinson, Cambridge University Press ). Apart from the above, In 1937 the Indian National congress discussed at length the status of the song. It was pointed out then that though the first two stanzas began with an unexceptionable evocation of the beauty of the motherland, in later stanzas there are references where the motherland is likened to godess Durga. Therefore, the Congress decided to adopt only the first two stanzas as the national song. Dr. Rajendra Prasad (The first president of India) was declared “Jana Gana Mana†as our National Anthem on 24-1-1950. “The composition consisting of words and music known as Jana Gana Mana is the National Anthem of India, subject to such alterations as the Government may authorise as occasion arises†(Constituent Assembly of India, Vol. XII, 24-1-1950) So tell me why it is compulsory to all Indian to sing the song “Vande mataram†on 7 Sep, 2006. Up to what extent it is acceptable to impose a hymn of one religious Goddess on communities of united India. Is this the measure of patriotism? I kindly request you all to oppose the politicians who want to play with the sentiments of religions. Jai Hind

Hey Indian… Thanks..Lovely package of information…. a very srtong and informative righting… I honestly never knew all these …. and I bet 95% of Indian dont know… All they know is just to get trapped with some stupid politicians and So called religious leaders…. Thanx… And I would recommened to all my brothers and sisters to first do spme reacher work before the right anything so that all of us can get right informations … not personal views….
Syed Hussain | Jan 16, 2007 | Reply
Dear brothers..first of all i want to inform you my view that, in Islam ,all living and non living creatures in this world are slaves of Allah.
First of all a man whether he is a muslim or non muslim he is the slave of the One and Only lord of the lords. Only far after this slaveness,
other hierarchy like whether is an asian, american, indian, race, patriot, belongs to which nation etc branches out.
The hirarchy structure of every human starts as a slave to God and only below this every other things brances out.
And when the other characteristic features affects the basic law of accepting One God for whom the human is a slave, then that feature has to be neglected or rejected.
For example, when vande matram song propogates the false fact that there are more than one God, then it does not come into the picture to be considered because it affects the basic hierarchy that human is the slave of One God.

Dear Saheel,
wish you consider motherland, family before religion. patriotism should be something which should be common among us to keep united. religion is personal, secondary and up to the individual….

hi everone
i must say that if anythging is written against any religion then we can say not to recite it,otherwise not.
but it should also be cleared that the thing or any sort of verses should not be forced to any body for recitation.bcz india has variety of peoples like sikhs, hindus, christians, muslims etc..so the respect for everyone’s religion should there be in mind. And not to force if its only for one group.
thnx.
