Can India lift the ICC World Cup 2007 ?

For us Indians, to have a conversation on cricket occasionally requires no second person. Most of us can argue vigorously with ourselves, internal debates that suggest a delightful schizophrenia, where we are optimist yet pessimist, believer and sceptic, supporter and critic, all at once.

We can dissect Tendulkar for an hour, then hail him as conqueror with his next six. We are fickle yet faithful, quick to damn and as fast to forgive, sure that Dravid should open and certain he should come at No 7, simultaneously convinced that Sehwag is overrated yet must go to the cup.

So it follows that as the World Cup approaches, when asked whether India can win, one voice insists “of course” while the other laughs uproariously at the absurdity of the question. Some may call this wishy-washiness, but here are two scenarios of India’s chances at the World Cup. Win or Lose

Just pick one and state what makes you think that way …

  2. It is tough to comment on this. Even after Brett Lee is out of Australian team, still this team has good chances .. Lets hope Veeru will come back to his form .. I think it will be Aus or India .. Lets wait and watch .. Thanks for starting a good topic ..

  3. India has potential and the team looks good.It will surely reach semifinals. If the seniors keep themselves composed all the time and the youngsters deliver India can win the world cup.

  5. well first let me analyse indian team….We got the ideal start in the warm up games all the batsmen have chipped in with runs execept sehwag and bowlers like irphan and munaf have done well….these r just warm up games and have got nothing to do with main games….Team needs to be foccused every day and right combination has to be picked….especially bowlers like harbajan, kumble should be shuffled according to the opposition and pitches…though nowadays west indes are slow pitches we have got sachin, yuvraj and sehwag as part time bowlers so we can pick one full time spinner for a match that will do. Zaheer or Munaf are the key pace bowlers for india, pathan or agarkar playes the second role and if its a bolwers pitch the sreesanth comes in to the picture. It will be good to make qucik changes according to situation.
Coming to batting we r blessed with sachin in the team and in world cup he will be twice his strength, i guess he will make most from this tournament and still hungry for runs, he can be used in middle order or in the opening accordin to team requirement….For matches like ind vs pak 2003 wc sachin shud come as opener there is no other go. And we have sourav who looked good after his come back…he also has a role to play as he has got lots of experience, talking abt openers utappa looks good with technique but hasnt made any huge impact yet…may be world cup is the stage for him, sehwag is a fire when he is in full flow, he got to pick up his form before its too late…he can give good starts no matter what ever is the opposition, he relies on timing rather than technique thats the main back drop, the most key players in indian team are yuvraj singh and dhoni, talking abt yuvraj is the ideal lower middle order player, i guess he is the key for india in 30 to 50 overs, dhoni plays shots in unusual field positions which make opposition tough to set field….he has cricketing brain too, dinesh karthik comes handy in the fielding department if he is in team. Thats it

    Thanks,
    Raj.

  7. last but not the least our captain rahul dravid who has got every shot in the book of cricket and has the patience and can play sheet anchor role is the backbone of indian cricket for many years now……If these plans go well like atleast 7 players play upto the potential…i dont have any doubt that we can pick the 2nd world cup.

    Thanks,
    True indian fan,

  8. India will reach semis but not finals. How can they ? If someone plays well…all play well. If we start loosing, no one is talented enough like lara to win it for us.

  9. First of all whoever wrote the text from BBC are really good, as matter of fact its 100% true since when we loose we say not to even watch next match but when the next match comes we all sit at score board, now its hard to say India going to win because West Indies pitch are not favors but there are also lot of chances to win. Of course being an Indian we all hope that India going to WIN with huge margin.

  10. guys dada is bak ,and is performing well which can add to teh strength of indian batting,I donno why sehwag is still hanging in the line up.
And when comes to twh world cup..each and every match is very very important..if you put a side the final..
if India does good collectively in all the leagues..then they can make thru semis..and finally to finals..
And final thing is am not bengali ..and from andhra..
and i appreciate ganguly for his commitment in r8 bak into the game and showing some very good performances where no one good have ever expected..all the best Dada..Bengal tiger..sourav..

  18. We Indians have become so much fanatic of cricket we had made it to a more than a game. As a sports loving person I would not like the Indian cricket team to win this cup so that atleast then we can look at other sports.

There are thousands of youngsters over there who wish to make it big in life. Why should thousand people adore a single person and make him rich person.

The only way other sports will flourish in India is when the so called game of cricket wades away.

I have nothing against the game of cricket but unfortunately because of our attitutde towards it all the other games are suffering.

Irrespective of India winning the world cup the corporate houses which are promoting the game will be profited by the viwers like us. IF India wins the world cup it will be sounding blow for all the other games as they will be marginalised more than ever.

In the intrest of thousands of sport persons over there who wish to standup on their legs I feel that if India loses the cup then it would be better.

YOu may feel I am unpatriotic but the end of consequence of that result will make atleast some sort of initiative been given to other sports by the corporate houses.

Being said so some of you over there will argue that why should corporate houses sponsor a sport which will not have the viewers for them. The only simple reason for that will be, with the craze for cricket gone they will try to inculcate the passion of some other games by testing atleast some of them which will give a chance for atleast 100 players pn the the national stage rathar than the so called 11 people being selected to the team…..

I am sure most of you will not agree with me if National pride is what you are looking for by winning the world cup , what to look for pride when only 16 countries are playing but instead search for that pride in olympics where all the world will assemble…..

We should start taking notice of the sport persons from other games so that so that the so called money makers(corporate houses) will start notice them and promote them….

Let the game begin and the reallality will be on the screen….I am not sure about the INDIA will win or loss the world cup…. but i am sure about one thing that INDIA will definately fuck the pakistan’s AUS,and south Africa’s chances of winnnig the world cup..they will fuck these three teams in such a way that these 3 teams will never thing of winning the world cup in there future they all will be sacred of holding the bat when a INDIAN bolwer is bolwing…..specailly pak’s batmen they piss in there pants….and that day every INDIAN will celebrate the win of world cup……
