Battle in India (Misc.)

Unlike his neighbour, Ambhi, King Porus chose to fight Alexander the Great in order to defend his kingdom Pauravaa and people.

King Porus fought the battle of the Hydaspes River with Alexander in 326 BC. After fierce fighting and very heavy casualties on both sides, he was defeated by Alexander in a Pyrrhic victory.

The battle with King Porus is often considered to be Alexander’s hardest fought battle, so hard that it caused his army to mutiny against him afterwards. In a famous meeting with Porus - who had suffered many arrow wounds in the battle and had lost his sons, who all chose death in battle rather than surrender. Alexander reportedly asked him, “how he should treat him”. Porus replied, “the way one king treats another”. Alexander was so impressed by the brave and powerful response of King Porus that he restored his captured Kingdom back to him and gave the captured land of a neighbouring Kingdom whose ruler had fled.

If all the Indian kings were united, then our enemy Alexander wouldn’t have suceeded at all.

Chanakya tried to Unite many Indian kings but failed due to their selfish motives.

Later Chanakya has to raise a powerful army under the leadership of Chandra gupta to kick the enemy out and establish a powerful and formidable empire in the Indian sub continent that no enemy has ever dared to look towards india for the next 1000 to 1600 years.

Chandra gupta was followed by his son Bindusara then by his son Asoka.

Prior to Chandragupta Maurya’s consolidation of power, small regional kingdoms dominated Northwestern India, while the Nanda Empire dominated the Gangetic plain. After Chandragupta’s conquests, the Maurya Empire extended from Bengal and Assam in the East, to Afghanistan and Balochistan in the West, to Kashmir and Nepal in the North, and to the Deccan Plateau in the South.

according to the movie, it was Alexander THE GREAT, who has lost the battle…considering the fact that he was wounded and lost his favourite horse and many of his troops…

couldnt understand why this site still wrote it as a victory of Alexander…perhaps they read it from out very own text books in India !!!!!!!!!!!!!

FOOLISH THAKUR,,U WILL even say now that Ashoka was a Afgani as his kingdom extended till afganisthan..and even u can say Ghandhar.” kingdom mentioned in Mahabharat, kingdom of Shakuni” which is presently called as Kandahar was a Afghani..ETHINICITY/ETHINIC GROUP MEANS ORIGIN..THESE CIVILISATIONS EXISTED at that time. U R A BIG TIME FOOL IF U R JUDGING THINGS SUPERFICIALLY BASED ON EXTERNAL BORDERS..ORIGIN MEANS SOMETHING VERY DEEP. How can u judge past with the PRESENT..U CAN JUDGE PRESENT WITH PAST NOT VICE VERSA..PAST IS NOT RESULT OF PRESENT ITS VICE VERSA..SO U DONT BLABBER..I PRAY GOD TO PUT SOME SENSE INTO UR BRAINS.
