Note: This post is not about Brahmins working as sweepers / cleaners. There is nothing wrong in doing such jobs. This is more about reservations / policies which applies for an entire caste rather than the needy ones. There are many people in so called ‘higher castes’ who are extremely poor. In the same way, there are so many in other castes who are very rich. But the current reservations completely ignores this issue and because of this many poor people are suffering.

We all know although the caste dominates politics or household atmosphere like marriages,
but to be fair, no body earns more cos of their upper/lower caste.
In todays day at a college level you need to introduce merit based admission..though the happenings are opposite.
No offense any caste but we know that UP/Bihar is dominated by Thakurs and Yadavs.AP/Karnataka is dominated by Reddy’s and Gowde’s and Lingayats and so on.

The reason why India is lagging behind is because of these people…The jobs they got in Sulabh are also meant for other people..there also they might have done some politics and taken their jobs…and they need smypathy for that???? They did lot good to our heritage and mistakes might have crept. reservation should be based on income and should be given to needy. the govt should improve infrastructure and reduce the reservation in the longer run.
I think the video is good. But as another viewer has rightly observed nothing wrong in Brahmin’s working in toilets. I guess the caste based reservation has in fact been a good policy in the upliftment of the back ward classes. But i guess the time has come to move away from caste or religion based reservations. In these time of globalisation the only reason india stands a chance is because of it’s skilled manpower. The more you have the better. The only way you can get there is by economic reservations. With all respect to the great community which is and would be the pedestal of hindu religion I agree with Chandan there is nothing wrong in any one working in cleaning Toilets. Infact it is said in our ancient scriptures that the more we clean dirt from our surroundings the more we clean ourselves from our evil nature.

Kiran you may be right India now may be backward because of Brahmins since they are supposed to be the controllers of our society. They should follow our religion in the best way they can and be an example to others. If every Brahmin does this then I am sure India which is the most spiritual piece of land on earth and Hindu religion which is the world’s oldest, most penetrating (with regard to spiritual knowledge), touching and God reveling religion would attain its superior place in this material world.
But… I don’t agree if you say Brahmins in some way ruined Bharath. …think about our great religion the great spiritual knowledge it provides that westerners envy till date … all this is because of Brahmins. Even in the contemporary world there are several leaders who restored India’s glory. Baji Rao …the great warrior who concurred India back from the Mugahals and restored the dignity of its women was only one among countless members from this great community…
Researvations were certainly helpful in the economic upliftment of some lower caste members but we shouldn’t forget that Researvations in India were introduced by Mrs Indira Gandhi who is from Brahman Community.

What’s wrong if any upper cast person works in public toilet ? When dalit can work then why not others.
For hundreds of decades dalits were untouchables, this was created by Brahmins. Now for few decades if dalits gets priority what’s wrong ? This is just trying to let Upper cast persons know what it feels if you do not get what you deserve.
Still I can see some upper cast getting Lower cast certificate for admission purpose. Have anybody noticed it ?

If I understand correctly the video is not just about Brahmins cleaning toilets. There is nothing wrong in cleaning toilets. If you really think, the point here is .. there are many upper-cast people who are living below poverty line. The Govt should consider reservations based on the economic status of the family not merely based on the caste or religion.

I don’t get it. Why is it such a big deal if a few upper caste people are working low paying jobs. Did you ever stop to look around or even reflect a little in the past. Think about your college days or your current office. I don’t know about you guys but I remember that in my class of 60 in college there were 4 SC/ST (2 free, 2 payment), 10 OBC (5 free, 5 payment) and the rest were all open candidates of which around 20 were Brahmins, and the rest belonged to other upper castes with the exception of 1 guy who was a Muslim. After graduating most of these upper caste people took of to he overseas for further studies, and the remaining found high paying jobs in the country. The others who struggled to land a good paying job ended up being 12 of the 14 reservation candidates (reason - they had to wait for a quota to open up so they could get a job). When I worked in India I realized that most of the people around me where indeed Upper caste people(if you break them down by individual castes I can bet you most of them are indeed Brahmins). They were just a couple of low caste candidates. Now that I am in the US I noticed that every fourth person I meet is a Brahmin (I know this for a fact because they sure do love to brag about it). The rest are usually people belonging to other upper castes. What I am trying to say is when majority of the people working in the high paying jobs are upper caste people, and even the majority of the people working the low paying jobs are also upper caste people, how the hell are the rest of the people making a living. I am sure that for every lower caste person who has a job there are atleast 10 people of the same community who are below the poverty line. I am sure the case is the reverse in the upper community.

Brahmin caste was the one caste which was really particular about caste system and thought they are supreme amongst all caste, they were the one who were very particular about untouchability. people are feeling bad because particular caste has started working in toilets for past 1 decade..think about people who did this for “I DONT EVEN KNOW HOW MANY YEARS - 3000 YRS” may be from the time Hindu religion came into existence. It’s funny how people here are getting mislead. Besides brahmins, there are lot of other upper castes but blame always goes to brahmins. They might be knowledgeble and edcuated for centuries but they are never rich. Most of the brahmins are middle class people. Anyhow, the point is neither brahmins ruled India nor they need to blamed for our current Indian situation. There is good and bad in every country, community and caste. Actually there is a good and bad in each person. I can show you lot of good people from other communities as well as equally bad.
I see some poeple saying that brahmins suppressed our system. I ask them to tell which brahmin king or ruler suppressed. All that we hear is word of mouth, I am not saying it’s all wrong. There might be some truth but do you think whole community was/is like that. Again it all boils down to one’s own nature and weeknesses and insecurities. I see lot of other communitues throwing attitude that they belong to so and so caste and showing their richness. Why people critize when a brahmin does that.

I have read this some where “In a village in UP, there were this wife and husband. wife gave birth to twins, After two months during working dalit lady touched brahmin lady, so whole family was expelled from job, village and also ordered villagers not to help them. If someone helps, their family will also face same problems. Very soon, Women died of health problems, as medical practiners refused to treat her. Husband did not have enough money to take her to nearest town to get treated, No one financially helped family as they were expelled. After 1 1/2 month both kids(5 months babies) died. Only left over is this guy now in family. Anyone will break into tears when somone read such news. This news was not even maid public. Media never bothers about this news, All they want is Bollywoood, Polictis, Money, and Cricket. Where is HUMANITY ?? This is not just one case, billions have died like this.
Now a days i guess all the media has gone against reservations, but did they ever bother when a dalit women was raped, do they go there and help them from humiliation, no never !!!. I ask people to grow up and be responsible for one’s own actions. If a person is trying to supress/humiliate you, you are giving that chance to do so. I bet given a chance, lot of people here who says their forfathers or whoever were suppressed by others, will definitely do the same to others if given a chance. That’s what they want. Just that thay were/are weak/stupid they critize others. You know what these people do when they are done with people, they start balming god. I tell to all those if there is anyone who is to be blamed it’s ourselves.
We never think or work but balme others for our problems/issues and when it comes to social issues, brahmins need to be blamed. That all we know.

Almost all the Kings, tried their best to keep equality in their kingdoms. Its just this caste, which wrote, thought and preached this caste system to others. They emotionally black mailed people saying that if one acts against caste, his whole city, kingdom will not have rains, or will have spread of contagious diseases. In the olden days, Brahmin’s were one of the richest class. They used to get lots of money , wealth, and land from kings in the name of temples, rituals, traditions and customs.best example for emotional blackmail is the video you have seen above @ Tamil preacher.
All they have been doing is black mailing people in the name of god. Still most of them live on the same thing, thats another thing. They wrote Vedas, and puranas, teaching that Vedas and puranas should be read only by Brahmin’s. This was to clear competition of any other caste entering their field. They made it fact now “that anything related to god is and should be controlled by Brahmin’s.
I seriously don’t feel sorry about this people. Now we don’t need any mediator between ourself and god. “THE HIGHER U JUMP, MORE FASTER YOU WILL COME AND HIT THE GROUND” SIMPLE PRINCIPLE OF NATURE.

I don’t think you know hindu mythology very well. There was never any rule that vedas has to be read / written by brahmins… Valmiki is not a brahmin but wrote Ramayana and was worshiped by many people even till now.

I am one of the admin’s of this site. First of all I do not endorse / believe in any religion including my birth religion of Hinduism (You should have known this from my previous posts). I am against caste system. I am also against reservations based on caste system.
I do have sympathy towards millions of people who were at the lower side of caste system for hundreds of years. But things have changed / changing rapidly in our society.
Yes untouchability is still a big issue in remote places. And I strongly condemn it. The point of posting this video is not that I am endorsing them. This was the video which was conveying the point that reservations based on caste system is not working.
There are millions of unprivileged people who are unable to use this reservations. The only way we can eradicate caste system is proper free education for all. In urban areas… things have changed a lot. There is subtle underlying caste sense but on the broader sense, there is equality because of wealth.
In my sense there should be only 2 sections. People who have and people who don’t. Our govt policies should be to raise the second group by providing assistance.
I agree the title of the video was not aptly chosen. But it was better than naming it as “Brahmins in India have become a minority”.
There should be a broader discussion about the impact of our govt policies. Clearly the current system doesn’t seem to work.

If you go back in time, to my best knowledge basically our caste system originated based on the type of job we do which has been designated by hindu scriptures. originally we have only 4 castes brahmins, kshatriyas, vaisyas and sudhras against what we have today. Brahmins were the only section that were educated at the period and some of them might have become possive about their knowledge. Their job is continue their caste by spreading the knowledge among themselves. They did their job. Over the period these might have become headstrong. Just becasue of small group of people like this you are cursing whole community. This shows how judgemental and biased a person get.
But it’s been hundreds of years now that all of are getting educated, how many of us are thinking right instead of cribbing on our past or blaming someone else for our stupidity, excusing ourselves for being dumb/weak. Also I ask people as how many in us would be gald to share our knowledge with out expecting/asking favors.
People always start critizing what happened thousands of years back believing on what been passed by our generations rather focus on current problems and who is to be balmed.

All most all the replies say that they support caste and reservation system, this is all crap Upper caste people are suffering since India got independence. Why the government should support lower castes financially and as well as in educational reservations. One of the person who replied asked whether the blood is different, then why he needs support from the government. he himseld takes help and talks all rubbish. If he thinks that the blood of all humans is same they should not take help from govt finanacially or educationally, but that will never happen.

Had they been malicious in nature, why just education, they would have conquered whole land using their mind. Instead they just remained serving to king/people and did their job. After all the debate in this blog, i observe that,
the anti-brahmans put forth their case by using the history and some people intellegently wrote that majority of the jobs are taken by uppercastes.
The defence,(neutrals and pro-brahmins/uppercastes) defended well by saying that referencing history to support a present day claim can not be accepted and that the premise of the brahmin bash is incorrect.
SO I judge that the defence has won this case with slight advantage.

Caste system has plagued indian society since ages.
post british rule era definitely needed reservations
because the most of educated mass, businessmen, administrative positions, zamindars, police all where occupied by the brahmins, vyshyas, shatriyas. SEE our list of PM’s all brahmins except two. CM’s all forward caste expcept hand full.
if they say they are above caste feeling i say its a BIG LIE. see they never allow marriages out of their circles. if someone does so he is mostly excommunicated or we often hear young couples being murdered by their own communities for their denial.
Many temples still bar people from darshan on basis caste. Unlearned brahmins can inherit priesthood(pojari)
but dalits with sound religious knowledge are still denied the positions.
Now many corrupt forward caste people have even got fake caste certificates using their influential positions.
Indeed some dalits to have risen to positions from where they dont need reservation but still us it as a shortcut to success which is ofcourse wrong.
So govt should now back people on basis on their current financial standing. But in a Corrupt system like ours, people would abuse even that form of reservation so policy makers would have to formulate a new system which could be least abused.

It’s not the question weather a Bramhin is working in Sulabh Complex or working as CEO for a big MNC. Its question of how so called upper caste people are struggling in INDIA. Every one is talking about reservation in INDIA, I would like to present a true story in this regard.
A friend of mine appeared for EAMCET(Its a common entrance test to purse bachelor degree in Engineering/Medical Sciences). Test was for 150 marks, 75 questions were objective type and 75 were filling the blanks. My friend got “1†mark out of 150. Just imagine, if he chose all As for 75 questions he might have got atleast more than 1 mark. Surprisingly he got Engineering Seat under reservation category. Imagine this type of brain working in a bridge construction project. Are these constructions safe?. Think in those directions guys.
I have seen so many comments like Bramhins ruined the country. I would like to quote some examples to contradict this. Nehru, Patel, Prakam Panthulu are some of the great Bramhin leaders who fought for freedom from British Government. They are not spoiling the County, in fact they are helping the country to grow. Take the example of Infosys ex chair person Mr. Narayana Murthy, because of his master mind Infosys has created more than 10,000 millionaires in his company and it employed more than 80,000 people.

I am not getting emotional also baat koyi mamulisi nahin hain. It’s above our heads. Since some of you for no reason are accusing Brahmin community, I am tying to help those understand the reason that might be behind the people in the video to talk like that. Remember to use your education in a positive way. People might sue you on the grounds of humiliation. Be cautious and watch your words/actions.
Why Brahmins are always target, as I told in one of my postings, according to Hindu scriptures that is used a base for Indian caste system till date castes were based on the job performed and there are only four castes Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras initially. Among four, Brahmins are the only community that you see from ages from north to south and east to west in India where as rest three lost their representation. You don’t see anyone saying I am Kshatriyas, Vaishyas or Shudras anymore. So it became like a trend to criticize or humiliate Brahmins without knowing anything about them. For any social issue blame goes to Brahmin.

I am just wondering how we human beings are. We crave for identification. When we are out of country, we identify ourselves as Indians, when we are in other state witnin India, we identify by state, within state, by city, with city by colony, within colony by caste.
But what we are forgetting is if you look closely, Hinduism is no different from other religions. They are also classified, in Christianity we have Methodists, Catholics, Protestants, etc, etc, in Islam, we have sunnis, shil’as, so on and so forth. Besides religion/caste again we represent ourselves belonging to communities such as schools, universities, profession, etc, etc.We want to be represented uniquely. We work hard to breakdown to a minuscule level to represent ourselves in a better way. We feel good like that and we are satisfied that way.
As long as religion exists caste system exists. I don’t think caste system is going to go away. I could see may be in future some castes might unite to be one but not whole human race under one religion or just by religio not caste. Nah, that never will happen even if it does, again we work hard to divide. That’s human nature. We want to prove that we are different. Think deeply, even at work or at home almost all of us want to prove that we are different and some of them strive hard for uniqueness. That’s how nature is. Nature wants variety. Variety is fascinating. That makes earth an interesting place to survive/live. Each person on it struggles to retain and pass on that identification. It’s survival for existence. That struggle can be little bit easy and hard depending on who you are born to. If your parents are rich, you don’t have to work hard for money. If you are the only one to your parents, you will have luxury of not having any house hold responsibilities. If your parents are illiterate you feel the urge for education. If you are an orphan, you feel deprived.
Since making all Indians belong to one caste is as impossible as bringing entire human race under one religion, what we should try to do is co-exist with each other living in peace and harmony without tampering any person or any community.

For year’s Indian society especially Hindu society have been divided on the basis of caste system and religion. The problem of caste system is so deep rooted that it is taking years for the Indians to come out of that idea. Even today also India is struggling to come out of this social menace. Lots of efforts have been made by various social reformers and individuals whose name doesn’t appears in the pages of history to make India free from the clutches of caste system, untouchability and race discrimination. And when we talk about Indian marriages, which are inter caste and inter religious it seems like a taboo to most of the people. But in order to eradicate the caste system and race discrimination it is important that there should be inter caste and inter religion marriages. Marriages are regarded as the most important social custom and the best means to remove the barrier of caste system. Today in Indian society though we can see inter caste marriages but mostly it is the part of the city culture. For years Indians had an orthodox mindset. So inter caste and inter religion marriages can only be possible if people change their mindset and views and this is possible if there is proper education and proper thinking.
In order to break the caste-system it is incumbent that there should be inter-caste and caste-less marriages. Though it is a difficult task to promote marriages between two communities but initiatives should be taken to fight this social menace.
So Divya, Think way instead of simply giving lectures about your caste…Try to come out of well…
I am neither trying boast abt my caste nor aganist intercaste/inter religion marraiges. All I am trying to say is as long as we survive poeple try to pick a religion or caste to identify and choose their life style.
What I meant is although differences exists try not to be biased/judgemental. Don’t mix what happened years back with what’s now. People have chnaged and are changing, it’s a ongoing process, part of evolution. Based on some baseless stories don’t make bold statements as ‘Brahmins ruined India’. Don’t blame on a single community for current India pathetic situation. Wake up and look around. Everyone is working hard for their own existence. Try to understand that. Try to move forward in life while letting others.

I think this video brings some interesting points. I think I agree with anyone who says that the govt should help people based on economic status. I don’t see what is wrong with Brahmins cleaning the floors and bathrooms; they are as human as the rest of us. I was disgusted by the way they kept bring on the fact that just because they were born as a Brahmin they should be treated specially. We are already divided based on religions and if we keep dividing based on caste, obliviously the Brahmins will be a minority!
PS: I think we should all look at the big picture and see that we are all suffering equally regardless of cast, religion or anthing else
Ah I have seen this video a couple of days back and after seeing the comments I felt like sharing my views. First of all why this video was not made about people doing still worst jobs like cleaning flowing drains or underground sewer line. Because they are not upper castes - Bramhins. With due respect to this religion which brought good philosophies to the country you guys have exploited the other communities so much that you are trying to gain sympathies or win the reservations that have not been given. Arey you so called PIOUS folks you have atleast media to get the sympathy now. What happened to the same heart when you mistreated people based on their caste, confined them to the village boundaries and deprived peoplr from basic needs like water and food just because you belonged to a superior caste. Yes i agree with this video, i am not brahmin, but its true the things are going like. in my villege about 50% upper cast, 20% bc, 30% Sc ,ST.
In the 50% uppercast people, about half of them are everyday labour, if they dont work a day they dont have food. they r below poverty line.
second thing is when i was in college, my class strength is 60 in that 2 of the SC candidates they joined in the college with reservation. but they are not poor their fathers are one is engineer and one is top official in railway dept. they r very rich. why they need the reservation.
The best solution for this is take out our reservation System. I know our fucking politicians they dont take out. they will increase more for getting more votes. They are still fighting to get more reservations. that is ridiculous.
Divide the catogorys like yearly income of each family. Put some line about who are earning less than one lakh per year they r eligible for reservation quota. This works good for all caste. dont need to fight uppercast, BC, SC,ST.
Reservations in IIT that is the again one more shit.

This film is not shown the actual situation of Indian poor. But it has some how managed to show very few neglegible incedents.
The Indian society has been dominated and spoiled by the “Brahmins”. They have always tried and trying to supres and exploit the lower caste SC, ST & BC’s in the country. Now a days even the BC’s are trying to adopt and demonstrate the same on sc & SC’s.
The present generation always talks on “No to Reservation” with out knowing the ground realities and history of discrimination in the country.
The SC and BC’s were been supressed and exploited very badly by the Brahamin community. SC’s were the untouchables. Reservation to SC’s is not based on their Economic status but based on discrimination. They should be given importance and uplifted in the society. their access to resources is very less. Under supression and exploitation by Brahmins for more then 1000 years the SC and BC’s are able to come up in the society only with the reservation policy brought by the great Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, created sensation in the lifes of the SC and BC’s.
By see’s at ver few cases of Brahmin community you are so bothered, then you must see the sufferings of the SC’s in the country.

I am against reservation of any form in India, except may be for those who are handicapped and economically backward that to for selected professions.
Way back I wrote EAMCET(common entrance test for Medicine and Engineering), I got a rank around 500 but I could not secure a seat in Govt College. One of the ST guy I know secured, around 12,000 and he got a seat in Government Medical college, and subsidized boarding and lodging facilities, and this guys father was already a Engineer serving PWD Andhra Pradesh.
This guy did not work hard h knows that, a Medical seat is guaranteed, and by the way once in College he knows that, he can secure a Top job when he is out,so he will not put any effort.
Guys like Kiran etc who want the Brahmins to be thrown away due to their past is absurd.
I strongly believe in no reservation policy.

First, based on one or two state conditions you cann’t depict whole country’s situation. Why becasue, you cann’t say India has almost 100% literacy becasue Kerala is the only state that has achieved it. UP, Bihar may be good examples to explain the current upper caste Vs lower caste situation but rest of the 26 states are not like that. UP and Bihar are so corrupted at administration and political level that even after 100 years you don’t find that much as change.
If you talk about villages in the advanced states then you need to see what needs to be done in those places. Also resources are available equally for both upper and lower caste but mostly might be enjoyed by upper caste as they might be able to afford these resources. This can be tackled by our goverment by providing free primary education or until 10/10 2, offering free medical facilities and generating some jobs such that economically backward poeple can support themselves and their families. Ask politicians to secure law and order. There is no reason Brahmins being accussed.

Ok you beleive that brahmins had tormented backward/SCs and STs. So, do you guys want to take personal revenge, If so for how long? Let’s forget for a moment what the people in the video are saying and look at their conditions. Are you guys satisfied or you want more? Ask yourself a question. You want to continue the cycle of uppercaste oppressing lower caste and vice versa. If we don’t make our reservation system based on economic background now, what happenes after 100 years is future brahmin/uppercaste generations will say ‘ BC’s/SCs/STs’ oppressed us and ruined India. So do we want to see India like this always or should we come out it and see India making tremendous progress and a safe place to live for at least our future generations?
Everything is under the control of government and politicians in it. As long as people live in past, it is these politicians who can exploit your ignorance and make money and keep their coming generations secured.
Ask yourself a question, if you want to be treated eually like upper castes then you don’t need reservation if you want this reservation by caste continued then don’t say you are being degraded by upper caste people. But you can not have both. It’s time to pick one, ball is in your court.
