Over 20 people were feared dead and another 20 injured after an under-construction flyover collapsed in Hyderabad’s busy Panajagutta area late Sunday evening. The flyover has been under construction for the past one year, and was to be inaugurated this December.

Over 15-20 vehicles were trapped till late Sunday night under the debris. The dead also include labourers working at the site. Even as rescue work was on in full swing, police reportedly lathi charged a crowd, which had gathered there.

A major concern for the authorities was that there should not be too much movement around the damaged part of the flyover, which is still barely standing and may fall down anytime soon unless it is demolished properly using cranes and bulldozers.

Punjagutta is an important commercial & residential area in Hyderabad, India. The shopping mall, Hyderabad Central is located here. It is also a major transit point for traffic going towards Ameerpet (a commercial hub) and S R Nagar (residential area).

The injured have been rushed to the to nearby hospitals. Only 6 injured managed to reach the NIMS Hospital while the ambulances were stuck due to massive traffic jams. Five injured were also rushed to city’s Apollo Hospital.

Is it the case of low quality construction? Maybe we can use RTI to get the information on the quality of materials used to construct the Flyover

This is another worst thing happening in hyderabad since last few months, atleast now the govt has to be blamed for this..this is no bomblast by the terrorist or the naxals..this is purely in the hands of govt..this govt has failed in many ways..atleast people have to think about it now.

the road traffic authorities should at least now realize the need for helping ambulences go through a clear way so that people’s lives can be saved if they reach the incident sites and hospitals on time. I think it’s quite possible to clear the ways for ambulences just like they clear the ways for VIPs, like CM, to reach their homes!

Condolences to all the people who have lost their dear ones.
I hope the people who gave permission to the contractor for the fly over construction realize the big mistake they have made just for the sake of some bucks. All the money they made cannot bring atleast one of the thirty dead people alive.
Pity us for electing such people as our leaders.

please for god sake. stop eating others money. i mean to say about the govt officials who is so conviniently ate money sitting the responsible seats, just to increase their bank balance. i dont think their next generations is going to enjoy this sort of savings which are made on the grave of innocent people.

Negligence! is the one word which best describes the incident. ill planned, ill equiped and crapy infrastructure. the rescue workers have no proper gear even though the threat of an other collapse is still looming. the fucker who’s building the fly over should be shotdead, he must have know how to tackle things on rainy day. bottom line - Govt is solely responsible for all shit happening. in INDIA, should awareness all ways come with loss of life?. after the incident, now the whole construction would be checked for consistancy. the CM was sent home just becs he was unable to get to the construction site, is it an excuse?. no wonder if he has a sound sleep the night of the incident. the engineers, Govt officials(as usual), the company are absolute disgrace to the industry and the country, the Ire of the familes of the lost ones would haunt them till death.

The most of the money that are issued for this road projects and flyover projects go in the hands of road contractors and ministers. so may be they are left with 30% or 20% of budget in hand to build the project. what can u expect. this is what happens. i think this should be investigated thoroughly . CBI should come in to picture. have no mercy who ever mother fucker whether its CM to be blamed or any other pig shit eating guy tobe blamed doesnt matter hang him to death. death should be slow to that mother fucker he shopuld feel the pain….

Just can’t believe that such a high profile projects also have failures resulting in loss of life. If these flyovers collapse before the construction, how confident can people be to use them once they are over…also shame on Indian people increasing the traffic and pollution not realizing the effects of this…every damn person now need a car..hopefully India govt also start charging Congestion charge…what did govt to to improve public transport..every damn road has got flyover approved by govt..no point in writting comments when nobody gives a damn..everybody forgets this incident after a week…wake up guys..just shoot the old, sick, uneducated, corrupt politicians…may god bless Hyderabdad..why isn’t govt putting plans to reduce the traffic on road rather than just building flyover every corner…think!

oh my god i am still in shock.. i roamed atleast 100 times on that road when i went hyd last time.

  13. 13 don't know why? Sep 10th, 2007 at 4:10 pm

This is the sign of cheap material and illitrate constructors, they just know how to get money don’t have knowledge to built the flyover. The constructor might be an illitrate engineer. . plase people stop voting to the illitrate politician like ys raj shaker reddy. every policitical always try to pull each other legs to bring him down from their seats they never think about developing their country. they want to fight about religion .caste and race. and they know how to fill their pockets. cata and monkey fight. no improvement. just they want to do crimes and rule their own way. sorrow for the people who died.

  14. 14 xxxxxxxx Sep 10th, 2007 at 5:47 pm

Please fence the construction area. This is the basic safety measure to be taken. How was this missed.

  15. 15 srini Sep 10th, 2007 at 5:59 pm

This happened because of the corruption within the polotical parties. The construction contracts are offered at very high bids…and to get this money back, the constructors use crappy material to build bridges and flyovers…and see the result!!!

    Fcuking politics!!!

  16. 16 Andy Sep 10th, 2007 at 8:18 pm

Well we all can moan and what not. I suggest each one of you publicize as much possible all over the internet and everywhere possible once we know who the contractor is.

Its shame the name or contractor is not revealed yet.

Its in our hands guys … Join me.

That should send jolts to other contractors let alone this guy.

  17. 17 ELECTIONS are needed Sep 10th, 2007 at 9:13 pm

  18. 18 madam Sep 11th, 2007 at 2:13 pm

I observe a lot that people vent their anger here in this forum. Which political party / CM / MLA do you guys vote or have voted for ? if you answer this question with anything other than “NEVER VOTED”, you are part of the reason why the bridge collapsed. We all know that these ass hole politicians and some leaches are eating away our tax money but why do we still vote ?? For one, I NEVER VOTE. It is my way of saying “You bastards do not deserve my approval”

  19. 19 madam1 Sep 11th, 2007 at 2:16 pm

Can anybody find the Public Relations email /web site for GAMMON. Lets all send vulgar hate mail there. Lets do the same for YSR /congress party/ sonia/ manmohan. Lets follow this trend for everybody who faults

  20. 20 ELECTIONS are needed Sep 12th, 2007 at 2:35 am

whats the use of writing in websites where these fucking politicians dont read….I think we are juss wasting our time writing in websites….should do something where politicians can read…
