Politicians should Stay at Home if they Feel so Threatened: Delhi HC (Discussions)

indian-politician

Observing the Politicians were not a ?national asset?, the Delhi High Court on Thursday took the politicians head on over having their security guards in tow when they step out and wryly told them to remain in the confines of their homes and offices if they felt threatened by citizens. ?You should not let these men (politicians) to come out. Their presence in public places itself threatens the common man. I do not know why it has become a matter of prestige for them to move with 10-15 uniform security personnel carrying lethal weapons,? a Bench comprising Justice TS Thakur and Justice Veena Birbal told the Centre.

The court made these harsh observations while expressing displeasure over the inconvenience the public have to put up by the overwhelming presence of security guards accompanying politicians at public places. The judges said the politicians were not a national asset which should be protected and if they were, the citizens would protect and there was no need to be threatened by public. ?It has become fashionable and a status symbol. The more security men surrounds these politicians the more prestigious they feel. It is obnoxious that common men are forced to stay on the sidelines and are prevented to walk on the pavements when the politicians pass through,? the Court said.

So what are your comments on Delhi High Courts objection. Please start a meaningful discussion.

This is a good move. HC should consider this request and put it in action through out the nation. It is public who is affording all these expenses. This might be step forward for development in India.

I suggest all the politicians to sit at home and cover online meeetings with the public and ofcorse please order your Pizzaa tooo and dont attend any public functions ;)

    Sri..

It is a really a GOOD move taken by the supreme court. At least now the politicians should know that the Government is for the people,by the people and to the people. And they are too humans and nothing special about them. When there life is in danger and when they come out with so many security men surrounding him, even the common man is hurt…is the common mans life not important for them ?

The politicians are there to serve the people…this is the reason they give usually…and feel that they are sacrificing their lives for the people…but on the other side they are like vultures to the nation eating away most of the money. When they have security guards, even the common man should also have. But if this happens all are security to each other, which says that all are the same.

When their life is in danger its better they sit in a room…this way they are making less harm to the common man.

Hope every1 supports the decision taken by the supreme court…finally SUPREME COURT u have proved once again that common mans safety and service is the first preference and there is no difference between a politician and common man and the GOVT is for the people

wow, such a gr8 move, so very excited and thrilled at such a decision. That’s the spirit. Politicians will now realize that they are as common as any other man, and will knw their real status.otherwise power corrupts their minds.
this is real india, hey India is changing, that’s a great news everyone should celebrate the democracy that we are enjoying it here.

I really hope that this idea is made practical, the panel which has decided on this should also try to look in to making this really possible. All the so called national leaders should realise that even they are commom people like us.

gr8 move sc.. u r the supreme… implement it as early as possible… otherwise these politicians will find some loopholes and turnaround the judgement… why don’t u try one more thing… if they are not listening or making any dharnas / bandhs / rasta rokos… simply put all of them in jail among with common man… that may be the safest place and they cannot claim insecured… the money spent for these politicians can feed another country of similar size… shame on their part… one more thing, if they don’t listen, let them resign from their posts and sit at home… why position, why security… simply sit at home… if you are a coward, you don’t deserve to be a politician and you just cannot do any good either to people or nation… atleast by sitting at home, you might endup doing something good to everyone… anyway… thats really good move and hats off to SC and its Judgement… Congrats!!! once again… Thanks.

A good and sensible comment by HC. When they file their nominations for elections, all the politicians should give an undertaking for not seeking security at government expense, if get elected. Since the security cost of all politicians is from tax payers money, they are freely enjoying such unwarranted luxury at the expense of public money and inconvinience. If they are compelled to pay from their own pocket, none of these politicians would be ready to engage such large contingent of protection force. It is hightime that the government should publish openly the security expenses incurred for each individual MP and MLA and also how many man hours of police are being wasted to protect them. Politicians who boast of getting elected by public popularity should feel ashamed to move with security among public after getting elected. If politicians feel if they are targets of terrorism, let them not contest elections and invite trouble of being killed. Let the voters elect those who never mind sacrificing their lives and move freely among public.
