Prof. Chandrasekhar and Jaya Chandrasekhar, along with their desciples, present ‘Pancha Maha Bhootam’. The production explores many concepts found in the ancient Indian arts and literature such as the Vastusutras and the Agamas in an effort to give a visual representation of the five elements - earth, sky, water, wind and fire - which are worshipped as deities. Lord Shiva is seen as the Ashta Moorthi - the embodiment of these five elements and the Surya (sun), the Chandra (moon) and the Aham (I). This abstract theme is given form with symbolic use of dancers, weaving dance patterns to assigned metres known as Rekhas and Chhandas. This visual presentation of the five elements is in the Bharatanatyam form.
