Synopsis: A simple and innocent girl is forced to move to Bombay following communal riots. Once in Bombay, the struggle for survival takes its toll on Mumtaz and her uncle. At the advice of a slum dweller, Iqbal Chamdi, the uncle lets her dance in a beer bar, Chandni Bar, to earn money. This is merely temporary, he promises, until he gets a job. However, the uncle doesn’t keep his promise; he lives on her earnings, drinking them away. He adds one final, unforgivable crime to the list when he gets drunk and rapes her. Potiya Sawant, an underworld gangster takes a fancy to her and marries her and soon they have two children. However Mumtaz’s blissful life is ended abruptly when Potiya is killed in a police encounter. With no help and nowhere to go, Mumtaz returns to her old haunt — Chandni Bar. As her kids grow to become teenagers, Mumtaz is caught in a dilemma, to tell her kids about herself or not ..

Indian society sucks !
Any society sucks, when it comes to treating women, so dont point out India in particular.
Its not just the issue of women, but also see the corruption involved within police, military and all the factions of the society and a typical Indian thinking that daughter/son of criminal is prone to commit crime.. in that the society drives the people to commit crime as shown in the movie, which I totally agree.
