In a bold step to “legalise” the live-in relationships, Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal suggesting a woman involved in such a relationship for a “reasonable period” should get status of a wife. The state cabinet headed by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has cleared the proposal.
The move comes after Justice Mallimath Committee of the Supreme Court recommended that all states turn this into law. The Committee observed that if a man and a woman are living together as husband and wife for a reasonably long period, the man shall be deemed to have married the woman.
The Mallimath Committee had also suggested that the word ‘wife’ under the Criminal Procedure Code, be amended to include a ‘woman living with the man like his wife,’ which means the woman would also be entitled to alimony.
Guys !! Maharashtra govt approves proposal to legalise live-in relationships. It’s only a proposal and still many steps away from becoming the law, but it has already sparked off a debate. What’s your say?

The new LAW would down the morality of the man, and would act like a petrol on fire on all the mankind. Some control prevailing in society with a common man would cause no control on such “aaiyash” people. Every woman, working as a ’social worker’/call girls/or any sexual relationship providing woman would go on claiming as “wife” of every second reachman or looklike a richman and demanding for her equal rights from propery. This would add new dengers and punnishment to innicent women and to their LEGITIMATE RIGHTS OF “LOYAL AND FAITHFULL” LEGALLY MARRIED WOMAN, BESIDES IT IS a betray to their faith and promises of safety, security and financial stability, under Hindu Marriage act, who married before to so called praposed law to impliment after proper sanctions.
All male beware and seriously think before establishing any “social or sexual” short or any sort/kind/type of relationship with any known or unknown woman, whether with or without making any prior ramsom or payment in cash or kind.
Awake all men and women to proest against such praposed laws and lodge your protests in large. come in large to VOTE against such dangerous praposals, who makes them feel that they are ‘AaIYASH’ kings/maharaja/Nawabs or even untouchable persons in powers.
Hey what about the people married under ‘Hindu Marriage Act’ prior to the praposed law ? This would sake and ruin the management of society, besides it is a clear chit and Licence to become immoral, and breach of LOYALITY,FAITH, CONFIDENCE, DEPENDIBILITY AND OATH conveyed in ‘SAPTAPADI’ OR ‘SAAT PHERE’. THERE IS NO FURTHER NEED TO MARRY EACH OTHER (man and woman). No social bindings to any one and all are at liberty to live without any control on their independence and social responsibilities or moral bindings. All people, please awake and oppose such praposed law leading towards unethical society for the benefit of few people.
it would be a black day and death of eathical society and ‘ HINDU MARRIAGE ACT ‘. Can you immagine two contravertial terms of “wife” ? Poor woman loosing their ultimate and last hopes of all kinds of survival and would lead to financial instability.
I think our politicians should concentrate on more urgent issues such as terrorism, global economy meltdown and poverty. If a couple chooses a live-in relation, let them live that way. If they do not want to take the responsibility of getting married let them do what they feel like. I think the proposal is so against the live-in relation.
Its very dangerouhere will be no security to the women who married legally.man can maintain more live -in relation ships .it it self says man can have as many no of wives .beware of this law. women will loose their rights. what if a women married , and she has a live in relation ship with other man?. according to this law, does she become wife of these two men? . does law permits this? or it allows only for the men?
There will be no security to women who married legally. what happens to hindu marriage act. every one can maintain many live in relation ships . suppose , if a man got married already , and maintaing a live -in relationship with another lady , according to this law , he has 2 wives. what if a lady already married , and maintaing a live in relation ship with another man , according to this law , does lady has 2 husbands? . there will be no morality in society. so beware of this law
Only this law does is LEGALIZE whats already happening. India is not a conservative country anymore. It used to follow British for few centuries and now its following west role model where they legalize every possible crime so that only few things are considered crimes like murder, child pornography, financial scandals. Cheating a partner is never a crime ( i wonder why not ? ). As India aspires to become super power country by 2020 or something like that, our politicians want to make sure that we live in western society where there is no value for true relationships ( never mind crocodile tears and all the acting they can put up ) and people can walk freely without shame or guilt. We certainly will be super power except for the fact that we cannot change our skin colors to either black or white ( what a pity ) - Anyway who cares, we have Fair n Lovely.
A married man or woman should not live with opposite sex under any situation, until and unless they are your close relations and you can trust.
Why would any married person want their spouse to live with opposite sex, be it any reason.
This will be a good lesson for those who get into illicit relations after marriage.
For youngsters, they don’t realize the consequences of live in relations and they spoil their future. For a girl after living with a guy for maybe 6 months or 1 year and if that guy dumps her, who will marry her?
If she boldly tells people, they will look at her with no respect and if she hides she will be cheating them.
A guy can get along with any thing easily. It is only a woman who losses.
So such rules are good to the extent that people will be more careful.
I think this is not a bad idea. Don’t think anyone can start claiming they are someone’s wife because they spent a nite together. They should show substantial evidence like sharing bills for over 1 or 2 years and stuff like that. This is a good idea because irrespective of what culture you belong to and what society says people still do behave in a way they want. If someone decides to live in together but not marry that’s their perogative. Insurance policies and stuff like that needs a legal binding and thats where this law comes in place.
Just like any other law a few people might try to abuse it but in the long run it will give more power to the individual people who want to follow the law.
its a bold move. this decision might have been taken with the future in mind.
lets hope there will be no demonstrations, effigy burnings or any hunger strikes.
