Lisa Ray: I am suffering from incurable cancer (Misc.)

Lisa Ray, the sizzling hot Canada born Indian model and actress who plays lead in upcoming flick ‘I can not think straight’ being directed by Shamim Sharif, has been diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer known as multiple myeloma.

In fact, the gutsy actress had the news with her as early as June 23 and decided to fight it out rather than go in seclusion. She has already gone for the first round of treatment of the dreaded disease and currently attending a film festival in Toronto. Sources close to Lisa Ray say that she is well aware of the incurable nature of the disease but wants to ‘wrench the spotlight on to myeloma and cancer awareness’ to make it curable.

Sources from the medical fraternity reveal that Lisa Ray’s cancer belongs to bone marrow category and rarely happens to people below forty years of age (Lisa is only 37). In this type of cancer the marrow’s plasma cells start behaving abnormally and multiplying rapidly. Bones, immune system, kidneys and red blood cell count are all affected adversely

Bollywood has precedent of people who have survived the cancer scare. The name of Hrithik Roshan’s sister Sunaina Roshan comes first in this category.

Sunaina Roshan had gone bald after going through six sessions of chemotherapy during her fight against cancer. This was all due to severe side effects that chemotherapy induces. However, in the end Sunaina successfully defeated the dreaded disease and now she is happy after being cured.

Let’s hope and pray for such a miracle for gorgeous Lisa Ray, too!!
